Mom and I sometimes go to a card making group at Creek Water Memories, an awesome scrapbooking store in Jordan, MN. Well, Mom goes every week. It’s been so crazy around here that haven’t been in several months. Last time I was there, Mary (the very patient owner) asked me to work on a jewelry project for her using Dazzles. Well, it has taken months, but I have finally done it for her. Easy, fun, fast, and cute!!
I chose to make a pendant. I haven’t decided if I’ll use it for a necklace or a key chain.
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- a pendant, ring, or bracelet with a space for embellishment
- paper for the background (you could use scrapbook paper, wrapping paper, whatever you like)
- glue to attach the paper to the pendant (I just used some jewelry glue I had)
- a package of Dazzles with stickers small enough to fit in the space you have
- a bottle of Mod Podge Dimensional Magic in Clear (but there are also glitter versions if that’s more your speed)
- a little patience for drying time
First, cut a piece of paper to fit the space you have. In my case, I cut a circle out of scrapbook paper. Or use a circle punch of the correct size. I admit mine isn’t the best circle, but I went with it.
Glue the circle to the pendant, and add your Dazzle of choice.
Apply the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic over the paper. Go slow, and keep the bottle at an angle. And don’t shake the bottle. You are trying to avoid bubbles in the Mod Podge. I did get a couple of bubbles. One I was able to pop with a pin, the other I had to work over the side of the pendant.
Cover the whole space, the set aside to dry.
The Mod Podge Package says that the product will need 24 hours to dry. Don’t be like me and touch it with your finger after a couple hours to “check”. Oops.
Here’s how it turned out…
The flecks that you see are actually in the glitter paper I used (not bubbles). Also, the paper actually stayed pretty close to the color it started. Maybe slightly darker, but not noticeably so.
Some things I learned:
- cut a better circle, for Heaven’s sake
- don’t use too much glue to attach the paper. Mine squooged out a little on the sides, and altered the look a little (the white stuff around the edge in spots)
- be careful when you glue down the paper, as to not glue your fingers together. It is a little painful when you pull them apart (unless you are not particularly attached to your fingerprints)
- by all that is holy, DO NOT TOUCH IT BEFORE IT DRIES! (Even though it pretty much smoothed itself out as it dried. Just avoid the stress and anguish.)
Follow these simple tips, and you should have no trouble!
