Before I met Mr. O I’d never of heard of a Birthday Week, but once he introduced me to the concept, we’ve never looked back. I grew up an only child, so it’s not like I was neglected in the birthday department, but I love this idea. Each day we plan a little something to celebrate each other’s birthday, and this is his week.
His actual birthday is on Saturday, so we are planning a fun activity with some friends (although we haven’t actually finalized what that will be – lots of options!). This year I picked up a little gift bag, and fill it with little surprises every day. Sunday was lunchbox freezer packs (romantic, I know, but it’s something he really wanted, and he was very excited!). Monday was a personalized Irish heritage key chain, which he immediately latched to his keys. Yesterday’s gift didn’t make it into the bag. One of his favorite things in the world is cupcakes, so I made him a big batch to last through the rest of birthday week. He loves to make his own homemade frosting, so he is a happy camper.
I can’t say what the rest of the gifts for this week will be, as I don’t want to ruin the surprise. :)
I also planned special dinners for this week. Sunday was BBQ ribs, Monday was homemade Mac & Cheese, yesterday we revisited the BBQ pork from the ribs that I souped up with BBQ sauce and served with mashed potatoes and coleslaw (more of his favorites). Still thinking about the rest of the week’s dinners…
The reason I share all this is I think it is so important to show the people we love how much they mean to us all year long, and it’s easy to take them for granted. Celebrating birthday week allows us the opportunity to slow down for a minute and really try to show our loved ones some well deserved attention.
Love you, Sweetie! Happy Birthday Week!
