First of all, let me send a HUGE thank you to Kerri at Simplicity Interrupted for awarding me this Liebster Award!  It was such a lovely surprise and made my whole day!  Be sure to check out her blog – she is a prime example that this blogging community of ours is full of smart, talented, creative women.  If you need proof, check out her DIY page (I love the seasonal bucket list idea!) and her Recipes page (Citrus Sangria, Kale & Sausage Soup, plus lots of sweet treats and more!)

Some information about the award:

this award’s origins are a bit mysterious, but the premise is this:
bloggers award other bloggers that are new to the blogging world.
the award acts as a pat on the back & a bit of encouragement to continue …
a “that’s a sweet little blog you’ve got … here’s an award!”
recipients must then play by the (ever changing) rules of
paying it forward before displaying the award on their blog.
essentially … it’s a chain letter,
but it exposes new readers to blogs & builds the blogging relationship.
the {current} rules:
- thank the person who awarded you & link back to their blog
- list 11 facts about yourself
- answer the 11 questions given to you by the awarding blogger
- create 11 new questions for the bloggers you award
- visit the pages of 11 bloggers you would like to award & let them know!
awarded bloggers must have 200 or less followers

So here goes!

11 facts about me

I have an incredible husband that took me 30 years to find (I think he was hiding) and another 6 years to convince to marry me  :)

I have a 3 1/2 year old Golden Retriever, who is my baby in every aspect (except biologically, of course)

I am an only child, find sibling relationships fascinating, and am incredibly close with my parents

I’ve always been mature for my age (which I guess makes be about 87 by now)

I have naturally curly hair that I do battle with every day

When I was a teenager, I filled dozens of notebooks with poems, short stories and mini novels.  Not sure what ever happened to them…

I used to work in sales and marketing in the beauty industry, and I still have a love of hair products, cosmetics, and occasionally providing unsolicited marketing advice  :)

I am a pinterest-aholic, and not afraid to admit it

I love starting new projects at home (organizing, redecorating, crafts, etc.), but the struggle is finishing said projects before starting new ones

I tend to get distracted by shiny objects and new project ideas (see above)

I am developing a love for cooking and baking, which makes my husband very happy, indeed

11 questions from Kerri

What is your favorite social media platform?

I have recently become a fan of Twitter (unless Pinterest counts, then definitely Pinterest)

Reality Television…like it or leave it?

I guess it really depends on the show, and what “qualifies” as reality television.  Survivor, Honey Boo-Boo, and Jackass – no.  American Pickers, Deadliest Catch, and Food Network – yes (and occasionally a little guilty pleasure – The Kardashians).  The truth is, in our house, the husband usually has control of the remote, so what is usually on are shows revolving around goldmining fishermen and mountain men brewing moonshine in Alaska.

What has been your favorite blog post on your blog so far?

Other than this one?  :)  I think I have 2.  Seeking:  Creative Inspiration and Snark Week.  They don’t revolve around any project or activity, it’s just me putting my thoughts out into the world.  It’s a little bit of therapy for me.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Sunday morning?

If possible, sleep in (although that doesn’t seem to happen much anymore), make breakfast with Mr. O, then hunker down with a big cup of coffee and catch up on all of the great blogs I hadn’t had a chance to read yet that week.

How did you come up with your blog’s name?

I thought it would be more personal to incorporate the ” O’ ” in our last name, so I played around with a bunch of names until O’Habitation popped into my head, and it had a nice ring to it.  So I ran with it!

What is your favorite season?

Well, there are things I love about every season.  Living in Minnesota, I wish winter we a little shorter.  But my favorite time of year is probably late spring/early summer.  Everything is blooming and it’s starting to warm up.  Plus, it’s time to break out the flip-flops!

Do you prefer the city or the country?

I love trips to big cities (Chicago, LA, San Diego, San Francisco), but to actually live – I choose the country.

Who is someone that you find inspirational?

I have a long line of great people in my family to choose from to answer that question, from my great-grandparents all the way through to my mother and father.  I am also finding many inspirational people to follow out here in the blogging community.

What is your favorite book?

I am, and have always been, a bookworm.  The list of books I haven’t liked is a short one.  But my favorite book, ever since elementary school, is The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner.  It may even have been my first book report I ever did, and my name completely filled out the library check out card in the back of the book.  My parents actually tried to get me that copy from the library as a Christmas gift one year, but the library wouldn’t give it up (even though my name still filled out the card 20-some years later).  They did manage to track down a new copy for me, though, which I still re-read to this day when I’m feeling nostalgic.

If you had one extra hour a day, how would you spend it?

What a great question!  I probably should answer “getting all the things that I started finished”, but what really matters in life is relationships, so I’d have to say hanging out with my husband, family and friends.  Life is too short.

What is your favorite blog to read?

I have found so many good ones with great projects, advice, and inspiration.  But one that I have been reading for quite a while is Brittany. Herself.  She never fails to make me laugh, and her writing is incredibly real and honest.  Which is probably why it is so funny.

Now I will get busy writing my 11 questions and finding the 11 blogs to share the award with, and I’ll post about them here!

Thanks again, Kerri – I appreciate the encouragement!
